A lot of people tell me they believe counseling will not help them. It takes courage to seek change and to choose not to suffer.  You can expect me to be empathetic, authentic, supportive, insightful, and creative, and trustworthy. I specialize in the below areas, although I'm trained in many others.

Individual Counseling

There are instances when life experiences often disrupt our sense of wholeness, leaving us feeling unable to find our way back to ourselves. When this happens, our lives and our relationships can become difficult, or even unbearable. As your therapist I will help you challenge old habits while helping you understand how you formed those habits in the first place. Through insight and action, you will learn new skills and make positive changes in your life. Please know that you do not have to endure life’s difficulties alone.

Family Counseling

There are life circumstances that not only impact an individual, but they can also cause stress for an entire family. Perhaps you are going through a divorce and you are concerned about how it will impact your children. Or maybe you are marrying someone who has children from a previous relationship and you would like to make sure you blend well as a new family. Still others of you may be grieving a family loss or you may be struggling with a family member who has an addiction or severe mental illness.

As your therapist I will help you use your strengths to your benefit while also helping you work on areas you may desire to improve upon. We will take a look at how your family tends to deal with emotions and problems. Family therapy is a great way to deepen your family’s relationships, and you can gain skills that can continue to help you beyond the end of your therapy sessions.

Group Therapy

Joining a group of strangers may sound intimidating at first, but group therapy provides benefits that individual therapy may not. Psychologists say, in fact, that group members are almost always surprised by how rewarding the group experience can be. Groups can act as a support network and a sounding board. Other members of the group often help you come up with specific ideas for improving a difficult situation or life challenge, oftentimes, you may feel like you are the only one struggling — but you're not. It can be a relief to hear others discuss what they're going through, and realize you're not alone.

A relationship is a connection you share with someone special, where you're willing to do anything for the other person without thinking it's a compromise. There's never a compromise in a relationship, there's understanding between two people. Through counseling, you will learn how to talk to each other more effectively and to work through conflict more productively.

Depression

When you’re depressed, it can feel like you’ll never get out from under a dark shadow. However, even the most severe depression is treatable. So, if your depression is keeping you from living the life you want to, don’t hesitate to seek help. From therapy to medication to healthy lifestyle changes, there are many different treatment options available.
Of course, just as no two people are affected by depression in exactly the same way, neither is there a “one size fits all” treatment to cure depression. What works for one person might not work for another. By becoming as informed as possible, though, you can find the treatments that can help you overcome depression, feel happy and hopeful again, and reclaim your life.

Women Issues

Let’s face it— being a woman is stressful with family, work, relationships and a giant to-do list. You need tools to know yourself on a deeper level. Counseling gives you the coping skills, support and encouragement to embrace life with more passion and joy.

Are you feeling anxious and depressed, full of stress, worry, and fear? Is dealing with your concerns and issues undermining your happiness and even your health? Whatever is gnawing at you, I want to help you conquer it, whether it be depression, anxiety/worry, parenting issues, work-life balance, relationship conflict, job burn-out, self esteem, anger, guilt/shame, self-doubt. I provide counseling services for women who are struggling with these symptoms and want to feel better about themselves and their lives.

Trauma

Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape or natural disaster. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. There is no cure for trauma or any quick fixes for the suffering associated with unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. While these feelings are normal, some people have difficulty moving on with their lives. I use therapeutic modalities that help facilitate healing.

Anxiety

Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).

These feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with daily activities, are difficult to control, are out of proportion to the actual danger and can last a long time. There two main treatments for anxiety disorders are psychotherapy and medications; allow PCS to help you build confidence that you can manage the situation and anxiety symptoms.
